Our History
A Journey of Hope and Empowerment
It all began with a casual conversation. Lorraine, one of the founders of Empower Pak Girls, was catching up with her good friend Marsha when she learned about Marsha’s cousin, JoAnn, who was visiting from abroad. Lorraine was intrigued by JoAnn's global adventures and the remarkable good deeds she had accomplished worldwide. Eager to hear more, Lorraine asked if she could meet JoAnn and learn about her experiences.
During their meeting over dinner, Lorraine was captivated by JoAnn's stories. Among her many projects, JoAnn spoke passionately about an opportunity to start a girls' school in remote Northern Pakistan. She had met a visionary young man named Noor, who dreamed of providing quality education for girls in his community. However, JoAnn had other commitments and lacked the bandwidth to travel back to Pakistan.
Feeling a spark of inspiration, Lorraine immediately offered to help. Without hesitation, she decided to take on the challenge and volunteer her time. Just 31 days later, Lorraine and her friend Kristi organized a quick fundraiser in their community, rallying support and raising an incredible $13,000. With this funding in hand, the two friends embarked on a journey to Northern Pakistan, ready to make a lasting impact.
The experience proved to be one of the most transformative and impactful moments of their lives. Upon arriving, Lorraine and Kristi were warmly welcomed by Noor and a group of bright-eyed young girls who were eager to learn. at their new school Eden Stars. Over the course of their visit, they witnessed firsthand the hope and determination these girls held within them.
Now, a year later, Lorraine and Kristi have founded a nonprofit organization—Empower Pak Girls—dedicated to continuing the mission of education for these remarkable young women. They are tirelessly raising funds to provide ongoing English and computer skills training, essential for unlocking opportunities in today’s digital world.
During a recent visit back to Northern Pakistan, Lorraine and Kristi were astonished by the progress the girls had made. Not only had they become proficient typists, but they had also learned valuable skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and graphic design. These newfound talents are empowering them to dream bigger and start small businesses in the future.
Empower Pak Girls is committed to nurturing this growth by providing the resources and education these girls need to succeed. Each contribution and each story shared helps build a brighter future for the next generation of women in Northern Pakistan.
